I recently rewatched this episode and I'm obsessed with the men's a cappella choir singing Livin' on a Prayer after Lorelai and Chris's heart-to-heart about parenting Rory. It might be the only thing that makes this episode worth rewatching at all. If those are Richard's Whiffenpoofs he should be very proud :)
Edit: I looked it up and it's the real Whiffenpoofs singing! Good for those guys.
Oh my goodness this is excellent trivia. Those guys are so good! And I agree - which is especially annoying that they’re actually great after Chris and Lorelai spend the whole episode making fun of a capella groups!
Maybe that's a sign that the show doesn't actually hate a cappella, it's just Chris and Lorelai who do! Plus a cappella is something Richard loves so of course Lorelai has to make a show of detesting it.
Christopher had a history of only showing up and being present for Rory at times when it seemed like he and Lorelai might be in a relationship again- even when he came when her arm was broken in Season 2 was leading up to the rekindling of the romance between Lorelai and Christopher in that season finale. I still hate he wasn’t at her high school graduation!
Right?! Christopher just is not a very present father. Reading this made me appreciate again how (even though our dad worked a lot) he was definitely very involved in our lives- from driving the U-Haul for the Pit Crew in marching band to reading Morality Play at the last minute when we realized we weren’t going to be able to finish in time to know what we were talking about for the Socratic Discussion the next day. I am always appreciative of the fact that he was not the kind of dad who left everything up to Mama to do (although of course she was very involved and interested and extremely present).

Very true! Has to be so terrible for Rory!
